Firefighting Bucket List

One of the truly amazing things about fighting fires in the United States is the tremendous environmental diversity. Fighting fires made me appreciate what a special place America is. Very few countries have such incredibly diverse environments like we have here. Which for me, only served to reinforce how important the mission of protecting and preserving our wild places is. If you work in the field long enough, you might get lucky enough to fight fires in some truly awe-inspiring places. Here’s my Bucket list:

      1. Tundra fire in Alaska
      2. Swamp fire in the Everglades
      3. Lava fire in Hawaii
      4. Lightning fire in the Rocky Mountains
      5. Desert fire in a forest of Saguaro cactus in Arizona
      6. Redwood fire in the Pacific Northwest
      7. Wildland-Urban Interface fire in Southern California
      8. Appalachian fire in Kentucky
      9. National Emergency Response (e.g. Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005 or the Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster in 2003)
